Hennen's LexiMurphy

"Lexi"

Lexi, or she is kindly known “The Mutant Jack Russell” was my first competition dog.  I got Lexi as a companion being I was at home alone at night while my now husband was working.
She started training in agility at the age of 1, and I mentioned flyball to my trainer.  She just happened to have a flyball team, so at the age of two we started training for flyball….and the rest is now history.

Lexi was beyond consistent.  She never crossed, never dropped her ball, never chased, could run in any position and would run for anyone.  She was best at start, as she never seemed to tire out, and was awesome at anchor as she knew what competition was all about.  She was a breeze to train, and I was spoiled being able to train and own a dog like her.

Her fastest time on the clock was a 3.70, but ran consistent 3.8-3.9.  Unfortunately she was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 5-1/2.  (Mast Cell Neoplasm Grade II)  The lump in her rear leg was removed.  She returned to flyball but shortly after she had a horrendous accident as she tripped up and somersaulted over two jumps.  She roached her back, but she tried to keep running.  (Luckily we had an emergency vet on the floor, and I can never thank Dr. Dawn Todd enough!)  After a few months off and lots of TLC, she did come back to race, but was never the quite the same.  She was still consistent, but only went below 4.0 a few times.

Her new job on the team was training dog, and she loved running on junior handler teams.

Lexi is now fully retired.  Not by her choice, but at the age of 11 she blew her ACL, so we finally came to the decision that she now needed to just lead a life of lounging around and chasing bunnies in the backyard.
